366 Days of Making Art

Day 5

Today went great, and then horrible, and then great.

I went for another run yesterday morning and I slept for ten hours again last night. Maybe someday I'll get used to running and be able to just sleep eight hours. I woke up at 6:30 and met a wonderful friend for coffee, after-which I promptly arrived home and fell, aimless and defeated onto my bed for no real reason. I don't normally just lay on my bed during the day, but I did for about 30 minutes until I decided that since I didn't run this morning, my usual bike-ride would at least be something good for me.

I've ridden 664 miles in the last 42 days - I gps track all my rides with All-trails - and I listen to an album that I've never heard before on every single ride. My favorite so far is the album, Rat Saw God by a band called Wednesday, look it up. Today I listened to the Foo-Fighters new album. The last song was my favorite.

On the way back home I rode by Julia Davis and decided that since I didn't hit my yoga and meditation routine I'd bring my schtuff back down to the park and do it there. I went home, grabbed my schtuff, stopped by Right Aid for some copper-tone spf 15 and some Hawaiian tropic dark tanning oil, and headed back to the park. It was immaculate, and completely turned my day around from being pessimistic and unproductive and got me in the zone. I owe my friend that for even making the suggestion of doing our work in the park.
I meditated for longer than usual and hit a good yoga sesh, after which I pulled out Psalm 23, and did some more score study and conducting practice. I had recorded a video of myself conducting yesterday but there were some parts that needed improvement; tempo mostly - lots of atempo, rit.'s to work with. After spending two and a half hours at the park I came home and put down a couple more bars on my flute solo - it's a-metric and without bar-lines so that's not necessarily true, but it's at a minute in length now, which is 50 seconds more than I had two days ago. The goal is 6 minutes, plus. Sometimes to get your work done you have to be greased up and half naked at the park.

See you tomorrow.
