366 Days of Making Art

Day 11

Woke up at 6am
Wrote for 10 minutes
Meditated 20 minutes (41st day in a row)
Yoga 20
Coffee and x3 James Clear Articles
1 Hr Bike Ride (Listened to RadioHead's, Moon Shaped Pool.)

I have been STRUGGLING with forward momentum as far as my main objective is concerned.

Attacca, by Complex Theories About Nothing.
My plan is an album experience pressed to vinyl.
I'm used to doing form charts and envisioning works in their completed form before I even put notes on the page.
That's not to say they're completely finished in my head,
but I generally have the scope, feel, instrumentation, and emotive qualities mostly predetermined, as well as a general shape;
intro, climax, resolution etc.
So a whole album is a large project.
I've been saving bits and pieces of ideas for about a half a year now in notebooks and on my phone.
I managed to catalogue all of them on index cards and map them out in relation to each other on a large sheet of cardboard.

This is what I call my form chart.
It's got bits of qualities, instrumentation, sonic effects, and a few bits of creative writing i.e. lyrics or possible song-titles.
As always it's hard to get started.
And no amount of planning ever amounts to any art actually getting made.
So what I've been doing is just committing to putting notes on a page everyday;
chords,
runs,
fills,
vocal melodies.

Writing lyrics has always been, and still is the hard part.
Feeling like there's something I desperately want to get out,
but not actually having anything worth saying.
Life is a virga when it comes down,
blank faced and open mouthed.
Everything falls,
like spindrift,
flitter.
And when I do manage to come up with something I like,
I can never expand on it.
Though I do love the style of of the severely concentrated extract;
Radiohead,
Bon Iver.
I'm seeing Justin Vernon at the Idaho Botanical Gardens on August 4th.
I'm absolutely terrified,
I can never measure up.

Today I managed to put notes on a page.
If anyone can tell me what chord GBDF#A#C# is,
in the context of the Key of Dmajor -
I would appreciate it.

I finished the main body of the wonderful, Mixing Engineers Handbook by Bob Owsinski today,
all except for the interview section in the back.
I finished The Inner Game of Tennis last night,
so I'm on to Grit, by Angela Duckworth.
I might need it.

See you tomorrow.
