366 Days of Making Art

Day 21

Couldn't sleep last night,
Restless legs from the running.

Good - Woke up at 5:45am because of it.

Back to Object Writing, 10 minutes.
I notice a difference in how it starts my day, more creative, energetic.
Coffee with it though - this time i'm not fooling around with waiting on the coffee in order to regulate the adenosine system. I don't get a mid afternoon crash from having coffee right when I wake up anyways, and it makes waking up all that much easier, plus the blue light.

Yoga, 20 minutes
Meditation, 20 minutes.

Composition - 3 HOURS - Flute solo. Going well. It's over 3 minutes in length, and I think I actually like it, which is a plus. I'm learning more about my, modus operandi. It takes a while to get into it, but then I flow - and time sees it's way out the door. It has no use for me at that point.

Then a 3.6 mile run, 34:04.
Not my fastest,
or my farthest.
But I did it.
93° F
& I did it.
It wasn't my lungs this time,
It was my muscles, which is new.
Good - I pushed myself far enough - 4 miles on Wednesday - and my breath is beginning to get some conditioning.
Rounding it out with 100 pushups today.

Came back, finally faced perfectionism and wrote a recommendation later for a dear friends for the Graduate College admissions at Boise State.
I learned about myself then too, and faced the fear.
Good

Then I had enough time to spend an hour researching etymology in order to name my flute piece. Tetraform is already a workin title for a percussion/Vibraphone work.
So I'm thinking, Tet'ra, but I like that for the vibraphone work as well.
I also Like, Fragments for solo flute.

Today was an absolute success.
I didn't practice piano for the 2nd or 3rd day in a row,
but I'm not worried about it,
It's been going well,
and failure is a data point,
Good.

I came across Spectre by Radio Head, the art and the song is a total inspiration. I would love to try something like this, with it's classically orchestrated strings and ethereal and morphing elusive emotive quality.

(Maybe I should call my flute work, Spect're hmmmm)

I also came across this quote from a prolific sound composer from the trailer for the biopic that I must watch now, My Way

"Beware of just strolling around in this paradise of sounds or noises.
Paradise is the most boring thing there is: Walking around in circles
with a palm leaf in your hand for all eternity - terrible!"
- HELMUT LACHENMANN

I love it,
to tears.
It indicates so much about expectations of beauty, and a preference for the seemingly profane.

See you tomorrow Lovelies.
